Role

About the festival:

United Youth Theatre Festival (UYTF) is a new national initiative bringing youth theatre companies together to celebrate creativity and young talent. Through performances, professional theatre, workshops and masterclasses, it will give young people opportunities to develop, share their work and connect with others who love theatre.

The opportunity:

We are seeking creative, passionate people to join the festival's board. Working with fellow members and the Artistic Director, you will help shape the festival's vision and future. This is a strategic governance role, not a day-to-day operational position.

Key responsibilities:

* Help shape the festival's direction and ambitions.
* Bring creative ideas, expertise and constructive challenge.
* Support good governance, financial oversight and sustainability.
* Help develop partnerships, networks, fundraising and sponsorship.
* Champion inclusive opportunities for young performers.
* Support safeguarding oversight and young people's welfare.

Who we're looking for:

We welcome experience in theatre, youth theatre, directing, producing, education, arts leadership, safeguarding, fundraising, finance, business, marketing, communications, events, production, governance, accessibility or community engagement. This list is not exhaustive.

You should be collaborative, reliable and enthusiastic about helping build something from the ground up. Previous board experience is not essential, fresh perspectives and transferable skills are valued.

Commitment:

This is an unpaid voluntary role, involving meetings held online.

Requirements of the Role:

  • Attend scheduled meetings online.
  • Read relevant meeting papers and contribute to discussions where possible.
  • Act in the best interests of the festival and its organisational objectives.
  • Maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive organisational matters.
  • Declare any actual or potential conflicts of interest.
  • Treat fellow members, staff, volunteers and partners with respect.
  • Contribute advice, ideas and expertise within your own areas of experience.
  • Support collective board decisions and act responsibly in your capacity as a committee member.

Members are not expected to undertake regular operational duties or commit substantial weekly hours. The role is voluntary, and we recognise that members will have existing professional and personal commitments. We ask only for reasonable engagement, participation and a genuine commitment to helping the festival develop.

Job Responsibilities:

Board Members will work collaboratively to provide strategic guidance, creative input and governance oversight for the festival. Responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to the festival's vision, development and long-term ambitions.
  • Sharing professional expertise, ideas and constructive advice.
  • Supporting financial oversight and organisational sustainability.
  • Helping develop partnerships, sponsorship and fundraising opportunities.
  • Building relationships across theatre, education and the wider arts sector.
  • Championing creativity, inclusion and opportunities for young performers.
  • Supporting appropriate safeguarding oversight and good governance.
  • Attending board meetings and contributing to agreed actions.

Members will bring their individual skills and experience to help establish and grow the festival. The Board is non-operational and will work alongside the Artistic Director.
